How to: Pokemon Breeding Part 1

Before we can get into breeding Pokemon, we need to know the basics a Pokemon.
Natures

Pokemon Natures are basic, they usually just increase one stat's growth rate by 10%, and decrease another by 10%. There are Natures that don't do anything to a Pokemon's stats, but usually you would be wanting to breed Pokemon with Natures that benefit them, rather than hinder their performance.
Here is a chart of the Pokemon Natures and their effect on a Pokemon's stat growth:

Egg Groups

Any Male Pokemon can breed with any Female Pokemon as long as both of them share a common Egg Group.
These are all the Egg Groups:

Bug
Dragon
Fairy
Flying
Ground
Humanshape
Indeterminate
Mineral
Monster
Plant
Water 1
Water 2
Water 3
Ditto
No Eggs

Some Pokemon belong to two Egg Groups, this makes it possible to Breed Egg Moves across from a Pokemon that learns the move naturally or by TM, to a Pokemon that can't learn the move or the TM, but can have the Egg Move.
This takes us to the next bit.

Parent Pokemon

-Females
The Egg will always hatch into the same species of Pokemon as the Female Parent Pokemon. (Female Charizard Parent = Charmander Egg)

-Males
The Egg can hatch with the same attacks as the Male Parent Pokemon, as long as the Egg Pokemon Species can learn it via Egg Moves.

Egg Moves
Every Generation of Pokemon, the game changes what Egg Moves each Pokemon can have to keep the game fairly balanced I'd imagine. Anyway, the best way to find out if the Pokemon you want to breed can learn a certain move you have in mind, then use this link to look up that pokemon.

That link will take you to a Unova Pokedex, it has been structured by Generation, to help you find the Pokemon faster.
When you've found the right page, at the top right should be a shortcut that says "Egg Moves".

If you want to find out what Pokemon can learn a certain move you're thinking of, use this link.

That link will take you to a Unova Attackdex, it will show you what Pokemon can learn each attack, and how.
Right, this brings us to the last part of this post.

Breeding Natures

If you let one of the Parent Pokemon hold an Ever Stone when you put it in the daycare, the Eggs they produce will have a 50% chance of having the same Nature as the Parent that held the Ever Stone.
This allows you to breed across the ideal nature across to the Pokemon you're making.

That concludes this Post on Pokemon Breeding, Next time, I'll make a start on Pokemon IV's, what they do, and how to breed them. Stay tuned! :D
